  Create a Child with a plugin By far the easiest way to create a child theme is with a plugin. There are several plugins available for this task, but when I started putting together a list of plugins for this task, I found that many of them didn't work correctly. In the end I decided it was better to write my own. This is an except from my upcoming book WordPress and Css The following shows using the file manager in GoDaddy, but it will be similar with most web hosting. 1. Click on File manager in your control panel.  2. If you have more than one site on your hosting a select box will pop up. Select the site that want to add your child theme to.  3. Double click the wp-content folder  Double click the themes folder  4. You will see a listing of themes  5. Click on the new folder button  6. Give your folder a name. Copy the files using cpanel or online file manager 3. Use a plugin to make a copy of the files This post covers using FTP. I'll post last about the other medthods. To make a child theme using ftp Create a new folder in your theme folder with the name of your new theme. In this case I have given it the name twentysixteenchild.  Create 2 files in your new theme's folder style.css functions.php  In your style.css file place the following /* Theme Name: Twenty Sixteen Child Template: twentysixteen */ The theme name is whatever name you want to give your child the
