My Phone is Full!

My Phone is Full!

My phone is full! Clarification:The article I read did indeed state 1.2 billion apps, the actual number is closer to 1.5 million, and 700,00 for Google Play So reading an article online, it says that most Americans download zero apps every month. And there’s 1.2 billion apps in the App Store, and probably a little slightly less in Google Play, but certainly millions. But 65% of US smartphone users don’t download any new apps; so no new games, no new apps, nothing. So what happens to those of us who try to make our living pushing these games and apps and everything else? There’s got to be a better solution. It’s just flooded. And I’ve tried for more than a year to get some of my apps out there. One of them is only doing anything at all, and the amount that I’m making a day

Dreams, Fears Not Giving Up

Dreams, Fears Not Giving Up

Happiness
Dreams and Fears-not giving up Things haven't gone as planned, but that's ok. They rarely do. Sometime you have to re-evaluate if you dreams are worth it. Here are my thoughts. Text of Video follows: Dreams and Fear [05:56] For those of you that don’t know me my name is Will. And for those of you that do know me, you know that I’ve had dreams. And my dream lately, the last one, the last big one anyway, was to move here to rural Thailand and build games and make money off of doing that. Well, the dream hasn’t quite worked out the way I wanted. I did move here, I’m in the middle of rural Thailand at the moment. It’s beautiful, I love it here. And there had been more problems than I had thought that there would be. But some of them are my fault and some of them aren’t my
Phasers on Stun!

Phasers on Stun!

After a bit of worry I have settled on using Phaser for my primary means of making games. Phaser is a javascript library for Html5, specifically made for building games. It will soon be changing it's name to Laser, so in future, you'll want to look for that. Why did I choose phaser? Because I can still rapidly produce games, and by my definition that means starting and releasing a game in the same day. It has a lot of physics that I had to program myself in flash. I has something called states, which can easily be reset. Think of a state like a screen. We would have the main state where all the action takes place, a game over state, a title state, a high score state, etc. Because I can reset it that means when a player wants to play again, I don't have to reset a lot of varia...

I still love Flash but…

Game Development
I have had a 15 year relationship with what is now Adobe Flash. 15 years is a long time in the tech world. Things come and go. A lot of my office coworkers were around 6 or 7 when I started using that particular program. I was reluctant to try it at first. There is always an apprehension when trying out a new language. It was the end of 2001, working at a company called tournamentgames.com. I had just started a few weeks before, and was asked to try out the program, Macromedia Flash 5. Not CS5, as it later was called but just 5. There wasn't much information online at the time about flash, but we muddled through and produced a few games. After a bit, the code became second nature. A lot of people were using flash, but no everyone used the coding part of it. There was a demand for code...

Changing the Audio Player Colors

Wordpress
Wordpress makes it easy to add an mp3 player to our post and pages, but it can be a bit boring. You can make the player stand out by tweaking the css. This is an image of the standard player that comes with wordpress and here is my modified player Below is the css code I am using to turn the player red, white and blue. Simply copy the code below and replace the color with whatever you like. You can use a plugin to set custom css code (I use simple custom css) /* yellow focus */ .mejs-controls .mejs-button button:focus { outline: none !important; } /*background color*/ .mejs-controls, .mejs-mediaelement, .mejs-container { background: url('') !important; background-color: red !important; } /* text color */ .mejs-currenttime, .mejs-duration {...

Professional looking buttons in WordPress the easy way

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
As some of you may know I come from a background of Tech offices. I've been more used to css, html and php, than anything else when it comes to web design. Also I've alway been more of a programmer than I have  so it came as a great thrill to me that the Short code Ultimate plugin took over the job of making professional looking button in wordpress, and made it very easy to do so! It was taking me hours to get things right, until someone had told me about this plug in. Here is an example of what I am doing in the video.
Creating a WordPress Page Template

Creating a WordPress Page Template

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
Hi! I know you are probably wondering why there is a dancing chicken on the screen, but we are going to use that fellow in a moment to do a little exercise to show how to make page tempates in WordPress. It is a powerful little trick that I picked up a month or two ago. I'm going to go to add new page in my admin panel. Over to the right you'll see a drop down of page templates. Different themes come with different ones. I've made one call quote page, because I want to add random quotes pulled from a database to certain pages on the site. If I want it to be a quote page I simply select it from the tempate menu. So I'm going to put a title of Quotes test page and content of “some cool content” select the quote page from the drop down, and I publish that. View it. And you will s

WordPress Woocommerce Changing Images on Color and Size Change

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
Hi, so I've been asked to help with a WordPress site using Woocommerce. The goal is to be able to switch images based on size and color selection. I've decided to make a video to make it clear exactly what to do and possible help other people who might have the same problem in future. I've set up the woocommerce. I haven't added any products yet, and before I do I'm going to set up attributes. Attributes mean things like color or size. You can edit per product or you can add it here and use it on every single product that you have or not. It makes it easier if you are going to be adding a lot of product. So type color, and click add attribute. The next thing I want to do is all values to the attributes. Put in red, click add new color and repeat the steps for blue & green. Now I...
Unlimited Font Icons in WordPress

Unlimited Font Icons in WordPress

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
his Post is in response to a post from a lady on a Facebook group I recently joined. She is using a plugin named WP SVG Icons which lets you use shortcode to place an icon like the gift you see at the start of this post. The trouble is that even though they have 400+ icons she is not finding the icon she wants. I can relate! I just purchased a set of 2000 icons, and when I got further into the project I found that it didn't have some of the basic ones I needed. This will show you how to use unlimited, or at least limited to the number of font icons sets in the known universe, on your wordpress pages. The truth is you don't need to use a plugin just to put fonts or font icons on your website. You will need a custom css plugin though. I am using Simple Custom CSS on this site...
