WordPress Child Themes Method 3 – Using a plugin

Css, Wordpress
Create a Child with a plugin By far the easiest way to create a child theme is with a plugin. There are several plugins available for this task, but when I started putting together a list of plugins for this task, I found that many of them didn't work correctly. In the end I decided it was better to write my own. You can get a free copy of this plugin here: http://www.williamclarkson.net/code/tools/easy-child-theme-maker/ Download the plugin zip file To Install: 1. Under your plugins click the add new button. 2. Click the upload plugin button. 3. Test WordPress on Mobile

Test WordPress on Mobile

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
Wordpress generally does a good job of being responsive on its own. Meaning it looks as well on mobile as it does on desktop but sometimes I need to be sure. So if you hit F12 and you're using chrome, a panel will pop up over to the side. You'll find a button there with the phone, and a tablet together. If you press that it'll bring up a series of devices that you can see how your web page looks on that device. You always want to refresh after switching devices, and I've got it set here for IPhone 6, So this is what my website will look like, on the Iphone 6. I can rotate it and that's what it would look like in landscape mode. Let's have a look at the IPad. That's a lot wider. You always want to refresh after you change devices. And flip it, and check the galaxy S5. If...

Changing the Audio Player Colors

Wordpress
Wordpress makes it easy to add an mp3 player to our post and pages, but it can be a bit boring. You can make the player stand out by tweaking the css. This is an image of the standard player that comes with wordpress and here is my modified player Below is the css code I am using to turn the player red, white and blue. Simply copy the code below and replace the color with whatever you like. You can use a plugin to set custom css code (I use simple custom css) /* yellow focus */ .mejs-controls .mejs-button button:focus { outline: none !important; } /*background color*/ .mejs-controls, .mejs-mediaelement, .mejs-container { background: url('') !important; background-color: red !important; } /* text color */ .mejs-currenttime, .mejs-duration {...

Professional looking buttons in WordPress the easy way

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
As some of you may know I come from a background of Tech offices. I've been more used to css, html and php, than anything else when it comes to web design. Also I've alway been more of a programmer than I have  so it came as a great thrill to me that the Short code Ultimate plugin took over the job of making professional looking button in wordpress, and made it very easy to do so! It was taking me hours to get things right, until someone had told me about this plug in. Here is an example of what I am doing in the video.
Creating a WordPress Page Template

Creating a WordPress Page Template

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
Hi! I know you are probably wondering why there is a dancing chicken on the screen, but we are going to use that fellow in a moment to do a little exercise to show how to make page tempates in WordPress. It is a powerful little trick that I picked up a month or two ago. I'm going to go to add new page in my admin panel. Over to the right you'll see a drop down of page templates. Different themes come with different ones. I've made one call quote page, because I want to add random quotes pulled from a database to certain pages on the site. If I want it to be a quote page I simply select it from the tempate menu. So I'm going to put a title of Quotes test page and content of “some cool content” select the quote page from the drop down, and I publish that. View it. And you will s

WordPress Woocommerce Changing Images on Color and Size Change

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
Hi, so I've been asked to help with a WordPress site using Woocommerce. The goal is to be able to switch images based on size and color selection. I've decided to make a video to make it clear exactly what to do and possible help other people who might have the same problem in future. I've set up the woocommerce. I haven't added any products yet, and before I do I'm going to set up attributes. Attributes mean things like color or size. You can edit per product or you can add it here and use it on every single product that you have or not. It makes it easier if you are going to be adding a lot of product. So type color, and click add attribute. The next thing I want to do is all values to the attributes. Put in red, click add new color and repeat the steps for blue & green. Now I...
Unlimited Font Icons in WordPress

Unlimited Font Icons in WordPress

Tips & Tricks, Wordpress
his Post is in response to a post from a lady on a Facebook group I recently joined. She is using a plugin named WP SVG Icons which lets you use shortcode to place an icon like the gift you see at the start of this post. The trouble is that even though they have 400+ icons she is not finding the icon she wants. I can relate! I just purchased a set of 2000 icons, and when I got further into the project I found that it didn't have some of the basic ones I needed. This will show you how to use unlimited, or at least limited to the number of font icons sets in the known universe, on your wordpress pages. The truth is you don't need to use a plugin just to put fonts or font icons on your website. You will need a custom css plugin though. I am using Simple Custom CSS on this site...
